Dr. Joel Robbins from Robbins Natural Health in Oklahoma has some things to say about our immunity and this time of year. This is what he has to say:
Our immune system is a highly intelligent and efficient army that works around the clock attempting to keep the body free of infections and disease. Over the course of each day we are exposed to millions of bacteria, viruses, protozoa, parasites, mold and fungi which the immune system eradicates without our even knowing. At the same time, many abnormal cells are formed in the body every day, but the immune system quickly destroys them before they can multiply and produce a disease process. When foreign objects, such as toxins, splinters, air pollutants, etc. gain access to the body, the immune system plays a major role in keeping them from doing more harm than they otherwise would.
Infections tend to be more common this time of year, but it is not because germs are more prevalent than at other times of the year. It is because the body is faced with more stressors than the rest of the year, which reduces the energy and resources of the immune system. What are the stressors that most of America has in common? It all begins October 31st with increased intake of candy. Then as the days continue, there is the ever presence of holiday goodies at the office and holiday get togethers. During this season, the average person will consume less fresh and raw produce which are replaced with often heavy holiday meals and beverages. In addition, the weather turns cold which is an additional burden on the body. More time is spent indoor, therefore less sunshine, fresh air, and exercise. Add to all this the emotional stress of preparing for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.
It is not that we “catch” flus and colds from one another, it that we are all exposed to the same energy/nutrition robbing stressors which weaken the immune system opening the door for increased illness.
Is there a healthy way to combat these stressors? Yes! Have you tried essential oils? The following oils can help to boost your immune system.
For digestive support, try Digize. During this time of year we are eating more than usual and different things than are in our usual diet. Digize is an incredible blend of eight different essential oils including peppermint, fennel and juniper oil! Spicy and exotic, it makes a great oil for the diffuser or you can rub it on your tummy.
ImmuPower Essential Oil is a blend that may support a healthy immune system. It uplifts and energizes the mind and body. Diffuse it in your home or office to support the body’s natural defenses. This oil is definitely a great blend to have on hand at home. It is safe to use on humans and animals!
With all the shopping and running to this event or that one, Brain Power Essential Oil is an excellent blend of essential oils that is specifically designed to bring mental clarity and greater focus that is sometimes associated with mental fatigue or a long day at work. It contains oils that are very high in sesquiterpenes which support healthy brain function. Use it before a meeting or competition to give you that mental edge. Or use it help you focus during meditation. Either way, Brain Power is a welcome blend.
During this time of year we are all outdoors more. We are running around trying to get so much done before celebrations, musicals and family gatherings. We are more susceptible to have respiratory problems. For respiratory support my family turns to Thieves Essential Oil. Whether you diffuse it or rub it on your neck and behind your ears, it works to combat the daily stress during this time of year.
